Paruppu Rasam or Dal Rasam 

 

Dal Rasam recipe with step by step guide. This dal rasam is a spicy recipe made with cooked dal and flavored with tomatoes, tamarind, rasam powder and some spices.

 

    Paruppu Rasam or Dal Rasam 

     

    Ingredients for Paruppu Rasam or Dal Rasam Recipe:

    • Tomato – 1 large finely chopped
    • Green chillies – 1 pinch
    • Tour dal / Lentils – ½ cup cooked
    • Tamarind pulp - 2 tbsp
    • Garlic - 5 cloves crushed
    • Rasam powder – 1 tbsp 
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
    • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp finely chopped


    Seasoning:

     

    • Oil - 1 tbsp
    • Mustard / mustard - 1 tbsp
    • Cumin / Cumin - 1 tbsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
    • Asafoetida / hing / kaya powder – ¼ tsp
    • Dry chillies – 1 broken

     



    How to make Paruppu Rasam or Dal Rasam Recipe

     

    • Pour oil in a pan, add all the spices and fry for 30 seconds.
    • Now add tomatoes and green chillies. Saute for two minutes.
    • Add salt, and rasam powder. Mix well.
    • Add water and tamarind pulp, crushed garlic cloves and mix well. Bring this to a boil.
    • Now add it to the boiled dal and let it boil.
    • Once it comes to a boil, switch off the stove and add the coriander leaves.
    • Mix well and serve.
